Nikita Vanderbyl

I’m a writer and researcher focusing on colonial and transnational art histories. My doctoral focus was Aboriginal cultural objects from Australia’s South East.

In 2019 I graduated from La Trobe University with a PhD in history and art history. I’ve taught Aboriginal Australian history at La Trobe and Deakin University and presented my research in Aotearoa/New Zealand and Hawai'i.

My expertise and interest also extend to nineteenth-century Russian art and history.

My research has been published in Aboriginal History Journal, The La Trobe Journal and on the Conversation. In 2018 I won the Community History Award for best peer-reviewed journal article.

I have also worked in arts admin and project management in Brisbane and then Melbourne for ten years.
